KIRKSVILLE, MO -- Now a follow up to the “Be a PAL-Prevent a Litter” campaign we reported on in March. During March of this year, seven local veterinary clinics across the Heartland offered reduced rates for spay and neutering procedures. Along with that, the Adair County Humane Society distributed 140 fifty dollar spay and neuter certificates to people in financial need.

“In the month of March the Adair County Humane Society had three different initiatives that got people to spay or neuter their dog and the results were, I think we had 183 people spay or neuter their dogs in the month of March which is pretty big results,” said Adair County Humane Society Board Member Bridget Thomas.

That broke down to 96 cats and 87 dogs during the campaign. If each animal had just one litter each of average size that would be nearly 500 animals becoming 2500 animals. The event was another great success.

The Adair County Humane Society will make its regular spay and neuter certificates available through the summer to those who could not otherwise afford the procedure. People may request this assistance from the Adair Animal Shelter during regular business hours; Monday-Friday 9:00 A.M.-4:00 P.M. and Saturdays 9:00 A.M.-Noon.

Those interested in supporting this campaign and the work of their local humane society may send a tax deductable donation to P.O. Box 481 in Kirksville.
