KIRKSVILLE, MO -- A multinational corporation is helping out the city of Kirksville in a big way.

John Sondag, the President of AT&T Missouri, was in Kirksville Wednesday afternoon to speak with local leaders about the company's investment in the city and to certify Kirksville Industrial Park as an AT&T certified fiber park.

AT&T recently placed fiber optic cable in the area, ensuring the best landline and mobile technology for businesses.

The certification will help in marketing the area to companies looking to relocate or expand in Kirksville.

"We're very excited about the opportunity that it's going to bring to the city of Kirksville to expand this industrial park. I think city leaders can market this to people throughout the country and the world," Sondag said.

"It's a wonderful opportunity to market our area because when a business wants to locate, they want to be in a building that has everything they need. So now with AT&T has invested in our park, what that means is that a business can come here and build without spending money on the fiber optics they need," said Carolyn Chrisman, Director of Job Creation for K-REDI.

Everyone hopes that this will help create new jobs and improve the city's economy.

"It's going to attract businesses. It's going to allow local businesses in the area to grow. I think it will create new jobs. I think it's good for the Kirksville economy," Sondag said.

"AT&T has done us a great service. Now we can market companies to come and locate in Kirksville," Chrisman said.

The announcement took place at the Kirksville Rotary Club meeting. Afterwards, a ribbon cutting ceremony took place at the industrial park.

Sondag said he's excited and positive about Kirksville's future.

"We're very proud to make the investment here. Kirksville is a very important city, and a community for us to serve," Sondag said."We're very happy that we were able to bring this here to help this community continue to grow."
