KIRKSVILLE, MO -- For Wednesday's Facebook Story of the Day many of you wanted to know what the laws where for fishing permits. Everyone who fishes in the state of Missouri must have a fishing permit unless they qualify for an exemption and special permits are required by everyone who is trout fishing when required.
People that qualify for an exemption include Missouri landowners who have a body of water on their property, any Missouri resident over the age of 65, anyone under the age of 15 with an individual who has a license, and those with certain disabilities.
Permit prices vary depending on the type and if you are a resident. A daily fishing permit for anyone costs $7, a residential fishing permit cost $12, and a non-residential permit cost $42. The yearly permits are good from the date of purchase through the last day in February of 2013.
Purchasing a fishing permit can be done three ways. You can buy one at most areas that you are fishing at, by calling the Missouri Department of Conservation at 800-392-4115, or online at the Missouri Department of Conservations Website.
Those who wish not to purchase a permit can participate in Free Fishing Days June 9th and 10th of this summer.
