DOUDS, IOWA -- Meet 17-year-old of Dylan Coffman of Douds. Agriculture has been a big part of his life due to his family’s long history of raising cattle. When he was old enough, his grandfather allowed him to help on the family farm. To this day, it is still something he just loves to do.

"I guess we just enjoy being around them, raising them, and taking care of them."

Dylan is a member of the Blazing Trails 4-H group. He has shown his cattle at the Van Buren County, Iowa State Fairs, and the Beef Expo in Springfield, MO and has won Supreme Champion many occasions. Dylan said though it takes a lot of responsibility to take care of his cattle on a day to day basis.

"You have to make sure there is nothing wrong with them. You have to make sure they are healthy, have a place to keep warm, make sure they are getting plenty of feed and eating."

Dylan said the best part of being in the agriculture field is meeting people from all over.

"My favorite part about going to the fairs is just meeting people, getting to know them, and having a fun time."

Dylan plans to continue keeping agriculture and his cattle a big part of his life.

"It's taught me a lot of responsibility. It's taught me how to treat people with respect. I know and learned so much. It's been around me my whole life."

When not helping out his grandpa with the cattle, Dylan is busy on the football and wrestling teams in school. He plans to go to Indian Hills College in the fall to study construction and agriculture.

Congratulations Dylan on being this week's Ag Kid.
