The Patrol said those involved were riding together, but in separate vehicles. In both accidents, the Patrol said the vehicles ran off a washed-out section of the roadway and hit an embankment, ejecting the occupants.

The other accident involved a Polaris Razor utility vehicle driven by 24-year-old Christopher Holt, of Memphis, Mo. and occupied by 35-year-old Courtney Ryan, of Bloomfield, Iowa.

Holt was transported to Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Il. with moderate injuries while Ryan was transported to University Hospital with serious injuries.
