CENTERVILLE, IOWA -- Earlier this year, Master Sergeant Travis Riddick, a 21-year veteran of the United State Marine Corps, paid the ultimate sacrifice for his country when the helicopter he was aboard, with five other service members, crashed in Afghanistan.
Now, his hometown of Centerville, Iowa, will be honoring him and other, in conjunction with the Humble Heroes Foundation.

KTVO spoke with one of the organizers of the event, Charity Cowan.
“We are doing this, through the Humble Heroes Foundation. We are doing it because we want to help military families, as well as military personnel who need support; financial support or other support from just being helpful to them for giving what they do, including their time and sometimes their lives,” said Cowan.
Cowan says that this is the least that the community could do for Riddick and his family, after they have sacrificed so much.
“It means a great deal actually, and I think that if you talk to anyone in town, they would agree that it is overwhelming to know what he gave and to be able to give just a little bit means a lot, and I think to the family,” said Cowan.
