BLOOMFIELD, IOWA -- For the Facebook story of the day, Facebook users wanted to know what the regulations were for farm equipment traveling on public roadways.
With it being planting season, drivers need to be more aware of the ever-present farm equipment on the roadways. If the equipment is traveling at 35 mph or less, the vehicle must display a “slow moving” placard on the rear.
“They do have to have white lighting or headlamps that would be able to be seen at least 500 feet in front of that vehicle. Also, tractors from the rear have to have a red light that is a solid light. It also needs to be able to seen from the rear,” said Sheriff Dave Davis of Davis County.
Tractors must also have amber flashing lights that can be seen from the rear.
Citations will be given to drivers of the farm equipment if they fail to meet any of these regulations.
“It would be a misdemeanor. It would fall under the ‘other lighting code’ in the state of Iowa,” said Sheriff Davis.
Davis added that drivers need to be careful when passing any type of vehicle on the road.
