OTTUMWA, IOWA -- The Ottumwa City Council will be meeting this coming Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall. The main item on the agenda is the Budget Amendment.

This is a fairly routine business item in which most cities and counties around this time will amend their budget, as well. State law requires cities to have a balanced budget at the beginning and at the end of each fiscal year.

“Unfortunately during the budgeting process you don't have a crystal ball so things do come up. Additional expenditures arise and, plus, revenues you hadn't expected such as grants coming in which all have to be accounted for,” said Tom Rodgers, Ottumwa Public Information Officer.

Rodgers added that there’s almost $70,000 worth of unexpected revenue from the sale of city-owned property that has been sold throughout the year that will now be included in the budget.

During Tuesday’s city council meeting, the Council is expected to vote on the proposed amended budget.
