BLOOMFIELD, IOWA -- People came from hundreds of miles away Saturday in hopes of leaving with a new addition to the family.

The U.S. Department of the Interior Bureau of Land Management brought wild horses and burros looking for loving homes to the Davis County Fair Show Pavilion Saturday.

For many attendees, the day was about breaking the stereotype that wild horses are not trainable.

“I think it’s that moment when you first get to make contact -- you've got this horse that's wild, he's scared he's not accustomed to people -- and when you go in there and get that bond going where the trust is starting to get there. And they'll let you touch them and you start building that trust; that’s when they get it. That's it,” said Chris Jamison, a volunteer with the Bureau of Land Management.

The adoption ran from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Ten horses were already adopted just a couple hours into the day.

A minimum adoption fee of $125 was required for animals that were less than three years-old and $25 for those that were three years or older.
