FAIRFIELD, IOWA -- The Jefferson County Health Center is celebrating 100 years of good health and caring.

The hospital opened one century ago in 1912, and the health center plans on celebrating at the health fair this Saturday. A doctor's office and patient room will be recreated as it would have looked in 1912, and that is just one of the exhibits being offered to the fair's visitors.

"One thing that's really important that we're doing this year is that we haven't done before, we're having a... national child safety car seat technician who's going to be here to check to make sure your car seat and the way you put your child in the car seat is properly installed," said Ginny Hughes, Community Relations Director.

The fair will also offer free children's eye screenings, a laughter yoga demonstration and a health report card.

"You can come have your vitals checked, check for carpal tunnel, have your vision checked, have a brain work out - just to see how sharp you still are - strength testing, diabetes testing, BMI - which is your height and weight - and also a pharmacist will be there to do a little medication check up with you," Hughes said. "So that's some really valuable free health screenings that are available."

Also be sure to check out the drawings submitted by Fairfield elementary students. They will be on display at the fair, and drawings picked as winners will get a prize.

The health fair runs from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday.
