BLOOMFIELD, IOWA -- A Bloomfield man originally charged with kidnapping and sexual abuse has managed to avoid jail time.
James Christopher Kozak, 21, received suspended sentences Wednesday in Davis County District Court after he pleaded guilty to one felony count of Intimidation with a Firearm and one misdemeanor count of Assault with Intent to Commit Sexual Abuse.
Kozak was arrested last may after Bloomfield Police responded to a domestic disturbance.
At that time, police said Kozak had held a female aquaintance hostage and attempted to sexually assault her.
During the incident a shotgun was discharged.
Kozak received five years on the felony count, and two years on the assault charge, but he will not see any jail time if he remains on good behavior during a three-year probation period.
As part of his probation, he must avoid drugs and alcohol and complete a sex offender's course and be registered as a sex offender for the next ten years.
