KIRKSVILLE, MO -- For Monday’s Facebook story of the day, many of you wanted to know if area schools were planning on cutting back on summer school and activities.

The Kirksville School District is not planning any kind of cutbacks this summer. They are planning on having their normal half day summer school program which runs June 4-29 from 8:00-11:30 AM. They are also adding a new enrichment program in the afternoons as well.

“We are going to simultaneously run an enrichment program for students interested. Students learn about robotics and dissection and all kinds of exciting things. So there is a reading and math component, which is the morning component, and then there is the enrichment part. This is really above and beyond what we did last year. We did not offer the enrichment program last year, just the math and reading part,” said Kirksville Director of Curriculum and Instruction Mike Bartig.

KTVO contacted Macon School Superintendent Debbie Livingston about their summer school plans. Macon Schools are also planning on running their normal summer schedules with no cutbacks planned.
