Kirksville teen in custody on drug charges

KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- A Kirksville teen is in custody on drug charges.

According to the Adair County Sheriff's Office, 17-year-old Paxton Alan Barnett has been charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance, a class C felony, and one count of unlawful use of drug paraphernalia, a class A misdemeanor.

According to court documents, a Kirksville Police officer responded to the 1400 block of South Lewis Street after reports that Barnett was threatening to harm himself.

After placing him in protective custody, police said they discovered that he had needles, a spoon, and a plastic baggie containing methamphetamine in his pockets. 

Barnett remains in the Adair County Jail on a $25,000 cash-only-bond.
