MT. PLESANT, IOWA -- The remains of a human body found in Henry County about ten miles west of Mt. Pleasant last month have been identified as female.

The remains were discovered on March 17th when two children riding their bikes from Lockridge, Iowa to Rome, Iowa noticed a white object, later identified as a human skull, lying between the roadway and the railroad tracks.

The Henry County Sheriff's Office, Division of Criminal Investigation, Mt. Pleasant Police Department and the Henry County Medical Examiner searched the area and discovered human bones.

The State Medical Examiner and a forensic anthropologist examined the remains and determined they belong to a female between the ages of 24 and 32. They have also determined the woman was between 5 feet 3 inches and 5 feet 7 inches tall. Time of death is estimated at the summer or early fall of 2011.

Cause of death has not yet been released.

The DCI's Crime Lab will now test the remains for DNA to possibly develop a DNA profile and hopefully further identify the victim.
