KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- It's Saturday morning, the day before Easter, and it feels like 50 degrees outside. The rain starts coming down hard just in time for First Baptist Church's ARISE race event.

The church continues to have the festivities and asks runners to rise to the occasion, and run anyway. About 100 are lined up at the starting line, ready to hit the ground running. After all, they paid $20 in registration fees for the 5K race; they weren't going to let a couple drops of rain and the cold breeze get in their way.

The event also included an eight mile bike, youth fun run, tot trot, bounce house, Easter egg hunt, and concessions.

Most of the proceeds benefited the church's Youth Ministry.

"The main reason that we like to have this every year is the proceeds help support our Youth Ministry here and it allows us to send kids to camps, retreats, and things that they might not otherwise be able to attend if we didn't have an event like this," said Charles Hunsaker, the Youth Pastor at First Baptist Church.

Hunsaker said a portion of the proceeds will also go towards purchasing school supplies and Bibles that will be given to El Salvadorian children during a mission trip in July.
