OTTUMWA, IOWA -- April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month; and a local group is doing what it can to combat the skyrocketing rates of abuse in southeast Iowa.
Jean Dell, from the Wapello County Children’s Alliance spoke with KTVO about this topic on Wednesday.
Dell told KTVO that her organization tries to educate the public about the epidemic.
“What we are trying to do is educate the public particularly the parents, to help them learn different ways of caring for their children that is not abusive to them,” stated Dell.
Dell says that young first-time parents can really struggle with how to appropriately handle a newborn baby, especially crying and fussing without resorting to physical action.
