KIRKSVILLE, MO -- The Airport and Transportation Committee met Tuesday afternoon at City Hall.

Items on the agenda included the continued success of Cape Air and plans for the upcoming Air Show in the fall.

Also discussed was how the new Highway 63 has improved truck traffic in the city and now working with the state to help improve Baltimore Street, which is now Business 63.

"We are just trying to make sure we give the complaints to Missouri Department of Transportation and that they have a quick response to get the street repairs done on Baltimore," said Kirksville City Engineer Ed Ieans.

Another important topic the group discussed is plans to begin concrete repairs and asphalt overlays on Normal Avenue, La Harpe Street, and Cottage Grove Avenue in June.

"We believe this is the best time of the year to do it because the students will be out of school, so we can move through it quickly and get the streets repaired and respond to the citizens’ complaints we've received," Ieans said. "Also we'll repair damaged streets from snow plowing during the winter of 2011."

It will cost the city about $832,000 for all of this year's street improvements.

The projects should be completed by sometime in August.
