KIRKSVILLE, MO -- Youth turkey hunters can get ahead start on the season, as March 31 - April 1st are designated just for them.

Although turkey season doesn't officially start until mid-April, Saturday and Sunday the season opens for the youth.

They will get their first shot at the strong turkey population this year.

"This is our only all day turkey season, it's during the youth portion," said Adair Co. conservation officer, Marsha Jones. "It's two days and youth are limited to one bird. They can take that on a Missouri resident permit, a landowner permit, or a non-resident permit."

Hunting hours will go from a half hour before sunrise to sunset.
