KIRKSVILLE, MISSOURI -- Guilty on all counts. That was the verdict Monday afternoon by Adair County Circuit Judge Russell Steele in the trial of Jerod Reed of Kirksville. Reed had waived his right to a jury trial.
Reed was charged with two counts of first-degree assault on a law enforcement officer, class a felonies, armed criminal action, an unclassified felony and felony resisting arrest.
Reed was found guilty of firing a shot from a small handgun he had in his pocket, while Kirksville officers were attempting to place him under arrest on other charges. No one was injured in the incident.
Prosecutor Matt Wilson called Kirksville detectives Jeremy Cordray and Justin Jones, along with Todd Garrison from the Missouri State Highway Patrol crime lab, who did tests on the gun. The defense presented no witnesses.
After less than a half hour of deliberation, Judge Russell Steele returned his guilty verdicts.
Reed is set to be sentenced May 15th. He could face up to life in prison.
