Only one on display in Iowa
BLOOMFIELD, IOWA --
The Davis County Historical Society Museum has reason to be very excited.
On Saturday, the museum and The Sons of the Union Veterans held a special open house to feature a congressional medal of honor from the Civil War. Other memorabilia was displayed, as well.
“There were five congressional medals of honors won by the Third Iowa Calvary. To even have one available is an awesome deal, but we’ve got this one on loan from a family now and we will through the sesquicentennial from now until 2015,” says Brent Clancy, Senior Vice Commander of the Sons of the Union Veterans of Bloomfield.
Clancy feels so lucky to have this Congressional Medal of Honor in Bloomfield. There are many other memorabilia on display, each having a story behind it.
Davis County is the only place in Iowa that now has one of these historical artifacts on display. You can stop by the museum any time or schedule an appointment to see the Congressional Medal of Honor.
