BLOOMFIELD, IOWA -- The long process of updating and restoring the main square in Bloomfield is almost complete.

The refurbishing project began over two years ago. Through grants, much of the square has been getting a facelift.

"We are continuing our downtown façade master plan and with that, it includes a lot of work - structural, as well as roofs, windows, masonry, paint, a lot of different elements going into this," said Diana Upton-Hill, Program Director of Main Street Bloomfield. "We have over 30 buildings actually that are being worked on."

The buildings currently under construction, including the square's courthouse, are scheduled to be completed in May, which Upton-Hill said is ahead of schedule for such an undertaking.

After those projects are complete, further grants will continue restoration on other buildings around the community.
