OTTUMWA & FAIRFIELD, IOWA -- In the local political ring, KTVO News has learned that some local officials will seek re-election, while some will step aside.
Ottumwa State Representative Mary Gaskill confirmed with KTVO Saturday that she will be seeking re-election.
Gaskill currently represents House District 93, but in the upcoming election, her district is going to shift from representing portions of western Wapello County to eastern portions.
The new house district will be labeled, House District 81.
On the Republican side, Blake Smith and Rick McClure, both of Ottumwa, have filed paperwork with the Iowa Secretary of State's Office to run for House District 81 as well. According to the Secretary of State, both filed paperwork on February 27th.
Two southeast Iowa sheriffs will not be seeking re-election.
After 20 years of service with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Sheriff Jerry Droz announced in February that he will not seek re-election.
Also not running, Wapello County Sheriff Don Kirkendall.
Sheriff Kirkendall has been at the helm of the Wapello County Sheriff's Office for nearly four terms.
It is expected that Chief Deputy Mark Miller will run for Sheriff Kirkendall's seat in Wapello County.
In Jefferson County, Chief Deputy Gregg Morton will seek the office being vacated by Sheriff Droz.
