BLOOMFIELD, IOWA -- The Davis County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public's help in finding those responsible for stealing scrap metal and other items from residents.

According to Sheriff Davis, several residents throughout the county have fallen victim to items being stolen from their property. Sheriff Davis says that a trailer, along with two engines have been stolen, both made of metals that can be traded in for cash.

Sheriff Dave Davis is asking for the public’s help, along with businesses that deal in the scrap metal business.

“The scrap yards have been really good on working with us here locally. Some of them do have video cameras and some of them make people bringing in the scrap metal, bring in a photo i.d. They do make a photocopy of that (photo i.d.) as well. It’s just kind of hard to identify some of these items because they don’t have someone’s name posted on them,” said Davis.

The sheriff is asking everyone to keep an eye out for anything suspicious.

“Some of the things we kind of ask the public to do, first of all, be a good neighbor, kind of keep an eye on things. If you see a vehicle that looks out of place, or that you normally don’t see around and maybe driving slow around your neighbors house or yours, go ahead and give us a call, get us out their, maybe we can make contact,” said Davis.

If you know any information about the burglaries, you are encouraged to contact the Davis County Sheriff’s Office at 641-664-2385.
