KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- It was a pretty chilly Saturday morning but that didn't stop more than one hundred people from participating in the Second Annual Frostbite Frolic. The 5k run and one mile walk was hosted by Truman State University's ROTC program.

Several of the cadets decided to brave the cold and run in Speedos.

"You know we don't need clothes to stay warm," said 'Merica Reams.  "We work out. That's all we do. We get warm by warming up on the run itself. So once you know, a quarter of a mile into the run, we were good to go. "

Organizers said they were happy with the community's involvement in the event.

"We had a great turnout. We expected about 120 and we're up to 140 right now," said Cadet Ryan Newman, the lead organizer.

The Frostbite Frolic was planned entirely by the cadets. Jim Tenpenny, chair of Truman State's Military Science Department, said planning the run gives the cadets excellent leadership skills.

"We're doing a great run. It's great community event. But in my mind, from my perspective, it's a leadership training event."

Several local businesses sponsored the event.

The cadets collected $2,000 from registration fees. Cadet Newman said the money will be used to buy and repair more training aids such as obstacle courses and a rappel tower.
