OTTUMWA, IOWA -- For Friday's Facebook story of the day, our fans wanted to know the most common consumer complaints received by the Iowa Attorney General's office.
In 2011, a total of 3, 658 written complaints were filed to the office, which is down from 4051 in 2010 and 4921 in 2009.
The top five complaints last year were home mortgages (491), debt collection (416), magazine sales (197) home improvements (161) and used motor vehicle sales (146).
Geoff Greenwood, the office's communications director, said complaints about student loans broke into the top twenty, perhaps for the first time ever. Satellite TV complaints have dropped, but complaints about cable TV rose.
Finally, complains about charitable solicitations also made it onto the list, due to the Attorney General's efforts to prevent misleading fundraising pitches.
