KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- The Jimmy John's located on Baltimore Street in Kirksville reports that its sprouts were not the source of an outbreak of a foodborne illness.
On Wednesday, we reported that sprouts from some of the franchises of the sandwich chain were linked to an outbreak of E. coli.
The Federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said 12 cases of E. coli poisoning in five states, including Missouri and Iowa, are linked to clover sprouts eaten at Jimmy John's restaurants.
Will Cabochon, the Store Manager of the Jimmy John's in Kirksville said all of the sprouts have been removed from the menu at this time.
He said the Adair County Health Department had previously inspected their sprouts and did not find any issues.
The outbreak comes a year after sprouts from one of the chain's suppliers were linked to 140 Salmonella illnesses.
Sprouts from the chain were also linked to a 2009 Salmonella outbreak in several Midwestern states.
