Suspected used grease thieves unable to slip away

KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- Two Missouri men are in trouble for allegedly trying to steal used grease from a local McDonald's restaurant.

Kirksville police arrested Walter Miller Abbey, 60, of Everton, Missouri and David Wayne Arnold, 38, of Aldrich, Missouri.

According to court documents, the chief investigator for Mahoney Environmental Services followed a white tank truck from Mile Marker 119 on Interstate 44 to Kirksville on Sunday.

The investigator told Kirksville police once the truck arrived in Kirksville, the two men inside drove around to various restaurants, finally stopping at the south McDonald’s restaurant.

The man said he witnessed Abbey and Arnold get out of the truck and start pumping the used cooking oil from the grease container behind McDonald’s.

The investigator told police he got dash-cam footage of the two suspects’ actions.

Police then arrested the two men.

Authorities said they were trying to steal approximately $800 worth of used restaurant grease.

Both suspects are charged with felony attempted theft/stealing.

Abbey is also charged with possession of the controlled substance, Oxycodone.

Abbey is being held in the Adair County Jail on $25,000 cash only bond.

Bond for Arnold is set at $10,000 cash only.
