OTTUMWA, IOWA -- The Ottumwa City Council will be holding a special goal-setting meeting on Wednesday, February 8.
The meeting will cover the accomplishments of the city since their last goal-setting session, the current issues and concerns that need to be discussed and the initiatives and programs the city would like to see over the next two years.
After Wednesday's meeting, the city council will draft the year's goals, which will then be approved.
"That's very important, because that's what we use to determine where we concentrate the city resources," Ottumwa City Administrator Joe Helfenberger said. "Now, I suspect that a lot of them will be concentrated in the areas of streets, bridges, sewers and public safety, although there are a lot of other quality of life issues that are there. They're going to have to prioritize them and pick which ones are the most important to accomplish."
Helfenberger said that as far as accomplishments go, the three biggest over the last year are the progress on the south side's sewer separation project, the four miles of streets that got repaved and reconstructed and the grant-funded projects, such as the City Hall steps.
The biggest issue the city will face in the coming year are the possible property tax reductions.
Wednesday's meeting will be held at 5 p.m. at the Bridge View Center and is open to the public.
