Elderly woman hospitalized after car strikes utility pole

KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- An elderly woman is hospitalized with moderate injuries after being involved in an accident where her vehicle struck a culvert, utility pole and a fence.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, around noon Friday, Betty Bergman, 78, of Novelty, Missouri was driving down Route 6, east of Kirksville, when her vehicle ran off the right side of the road. The vehicle then struck a culvert, went airborne, and then struck a utility pole and a fence.

Bergman was transported by the Adair County ambulance to Northeast Regional Medical Center where she is now listed in good condition.

The patrol said Bergman was wearing a seatbelt.
