KIRKSVILLE, MO -- The City of Kirksville and the Kirksville Area Chamber of Commerce held a public forum at Kirksville Middle School Tuesday evening.

This open house gave citizens the opportunity to discuss the proposed 2012 Community Strategic Plan. About more than 100 people came out and shared any ideas they had to make this community a better place to live in.

The chamber and city were overall pleased with the meeting.

"It is important for the community to pull together to look towards the future and see things that need to be done. The more input we get from the community, the better job we can do to get that on paper and move forward with those items." Said Sandra Williams Kirksville Area Chamber of Commerce Director.

The plan attempts to set a direction for the Kirksville community based on common goals that will lead to citizen empowerment and economic opportunity in areas such as tourism, transportation, housing, health services, education, recreation, and central business district.

The newly proposed plan is a continuation of an ongoing commission created in 1993.

The chamber and the city hopes to present the final plan to the public in the next two months.

The plan can be viewed on the City's website, http://www.kirksvillecity.com.
