OTTUMWA, IOWA -- When purchasing groceries for a family a four, it can be very expensive. However, as KTVO learned on Friday, you can save money on your grocery bills.
In Friday's Facebook Story of the Day, KTVO's fans wanted to know; how can I save money on groceries?
KTVO spoke with Family Consumer Science Teacher Emily Wehr. Wehr teaches at Evans Middle School in Ottumwa. Wehr says that even before you go shopping, you should be prepared.
“The key is to always plan ahead and think about what you want to make as a family, or what you want to make as an individual before you go out and grocery shop," said Wehr.
Some tips Wehr provided include, making a list so that you can prevent impulse buying. Also, check the weekly grocery store ads. Those ads can help you decide on what to purchase for the coming week.
Wehr told KTVO that in her classroom, she tries to instill money-saving tips to help her students. It is never to early to learn about saving money and getting the most out of your hard earned dollar.
