OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Iowa Secretary of State Matt Shultz is once again making headlines, this time proposing a new Voter Identification Bill.
On Thursday, Shultz held a press conference proposing the legislation.
The bill would require all voters in the State of Iowa to have photo identification when going to the ballot box. The bill has received some criticism from Iowans. Leaders on both side of the aisle believe that there is no problem with the current voter registration policy.
On Friday, KTVO spoke with Wapello County Supervisor Jerry Parker. Parker told KTVO that this is more of a party issue, than it is a state issue.
“The Republicans have made it more difficult for more people to vote, and I say that's okay if we've had a problem with people who shouldn’t be voting. But the Secretary of State admits there has been no problem over the last 20 years in voter fraud,” said Parker.
The supervisor is among many that believes this is a phony issue. He continued to say that the bill would make it harder for the elderly and low-income citizens to vote.
