KIRKSVILLE, MO -- The Kirksville Tax Increment Finance Commission meets for the first time this year.
The group gathered at Kirksville City Hall Tuesday afternoon to discuss the finances of both the Downtown Kirksville and South 63 TIFs.
The TIF Is an economic development tool to form a district and use the sales and real estate tax dollars collected to make improvements in the area from sidewalks to signs.
The commission discussed sidewalk improvements for the still-new South 63 TIF coming up this summer.
"The city is working with MoDOT to do sidewalk improvements along Baltimore from La Harpe down past The Shrine Club. So that will be an improvement people will see this summer." Said Kirksville City Manager Mari Macomber.
A two-year project to bring improvements to franklin street in the Downtown Kirksville TIF is also underway .
"The first phrase will be on Franklin Street from Jefferson down to Normal on the west side. Next year we'll do sidewalk improvements on Franklin Street on both east and west from Normal down to Patterson." Macomber said.
There was also an introduction of new members, and elections were held. Tony Fajkus got the position of Chair while Don Crosby will be Vice-Chair. Bill Castles will serve as Secretary and Treasurer.
