KIRKSVILLE,MO. -- As the new year quickly approaches, people are making a resolution to get their finances in order.
In order to give you an idea of what types of investments you may want to invest in, KTVO talked to investment advisor David Bethel at Financial Planners of Missouri to see what 2012 has in store.
Bethel said 2012 has potential to be a good year . According to him, dividend-paying stocks along with those that are benefiting from the housing pickup are both options people may want to look into. Also, he said U.S. small-company stocks along with U.S. assets are good options as well.
Overall, Bethel said diversity is key. He recommends having a diversified portfolio that includes global investments, stocks, bonds, as well as currencies, commodities, and real estate.
"We think if you have a good diversified portfolio, you don't experience the dramatic downturns," said Bethel. "You're likely to hang on to it, stay invested and in the long run, you'll get a good average rate of return."
Bethel also mentioned that exchange trade funds or ETFs in Brazil are on the upswing along with the Chinese and European markets.
