Deputy awarded for being a lifesaver

SULLIVAN COUNTY, MO. -- A Sullivan County Deputy is being honored for helping to save a life.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol has presented Sullivan County Deputy Gail Hayes with a plaque for helping Cpl. Reed Fessler rescue an individual from a vehicle up in flames. The incident happened on Feb. 24, 2011 near Milan on Highway 5.

Hayes was there to assist the trapped driver get out of the burning car. The driver only sustained minor injuries after the incident.

Former Sullivan County Deputy Eric Veach and Sullivan County citizen George Reckrodt have also received awards for their actions at the scene.
