KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- K-REDI has selected Carolyn Chrisman as their new Director of Job Creation. Chrisman has served on the Kirksville City Council since 2009 and has also taught Social Studies at Kirksville Middle School. She has resigned from her teaching position and is resigning from the City Council.
KTVO stopped by City Hall to interview her about her new position. She said her first day on the job is Jan. 3. Chrisman said it was difficult give up her teaching, but said she is looking forward to the challenges the new position will bring.
Chrisman studied Political Science and Business in college and said that background, along with her indirect involvement with K-REDI while serving on the Kirksville City Council has prepared her for the new job.
Chrisman's contract is for one year. She shared with us some of the things she hopes to accomplish.
"Maintaining our base of workers here. Maybe helping local businesses expand in the industry/factory sector," said Chrisman, the incoming K-REDI Director of Job Creation. "I'll try to bring in more of those manufacturing or industry jobs as opposed to retail or fast food chains."
Chrisman said Kirksville's low property taxes, beautiful countryside, and educated workforce will make it easy to sell Kirksville to companies looking to relocate.
"We have, I believe, one of the best education systems; not only the public school system of course, but with Truman and A.T.S.U. We have a good education base, and good health care. Those are some easy ways to sell this area."
