ELDON, IOWA -- The latest enrollment numbers are out for schools in the state of Iowa.

One of the biggest drops in school districts is Van Buren who will see a decrease of 54 students.  Student enrollment plays a huge factor in budgets for each district.

Cardinal superintendent Joel Pedersen says each student brings in a certain amount of funding from the education department.

"Every student in Iowa has a set amount, just roughly over $6,000 per student, for next fiscal year,” Pedersen said.  “So if you are losing enrollment certainly you want to use those projections to take a look at things you may have to change as far as the budget.
