KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- Every ten years, the United States goes through a census to track how many people they have within their states. From those population numbers redistricting can take place.

On the federal level, the state of Missouri lost one congressman. It also had to increase the number of people in each state house and state senate district.

Missouri District 2 gained 2,000 people within the district which prompted the redistricting. There has been confusion on when the new districting will take place and where exactly the new district is located.

State Representative Zach Wyatt said, "The new district numbers and new state representatives that represent those districts will not be there until 2013, after the 2012 elections in November. A lot of people are going to be seeing those representatives in their district, and the new district areas too, because they want people to know that they're there for them."

Wyatt said that he looks forward to working with everyone, and wants to reassure people not to worry about the new district. January 2013 is when the new district lines will be changed.

If you are still confused on where exactly the new lines fall go to http://oa.mo.gov/bp/redistricting/newlegislativedistricts/. Check 'Legislative District' and 'House of Apportionment Plan' in the legend, then zoom in to where your home is located.
