Hunter injured after being shot in southeast Iowa

MORAVIA, IOWA -- On Sunday afternoon, a hunter from Waterloo, Iowa was airlifted to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, after being shot in the midsection by one of his fellow hunters near Moravia, Iowa.

Thomas Burns, 38, was with 21 other hunters when the incident took place.

According to the Iowa DNR; one of Burns' fellow hunters went to shoot a running deer when the bullet hit Burns.

Burns was in stable condition when he arrived at Mercy Medical Center.

Assisting in the investigation were the Appanoose County Sheriff's Office and the Iowa State Patrol.
