KIRKSVILLE, MISSOURI -- A man being held on a Clark County warrant is now facing charges in Adair County.
Aaron Hamner, 28, of Keokuk Iowa, is charged with felony counts of tampering with a motor vehicle, possession of a controlled substance-methamphetamine and stealing.
According to court documents, Kirksville Police were called to a South Marion Street residence where witnesses had said they smelled a burning marijuana smell. Officers spotted Hamner coming from the residence to a car parked nearby. When questioned by police Hamner admitted he had smoked marijuana earlier in the day. Hamner then emptied his pockets. After the suspect produced a switchblade knife from one pocket, officers patted him down and found a pipe known to be used to smoke controlled substances. When officer ran the plates from the car, they discovered they didn't match this car, but another car that had been reported stolen in Van Buren County Iowa.
Further investigation by Kirksville Police and police in Keokuk Iowa also tied Hamner to the theft of a trailer and several thousand dollars worth of tools inside, from Perfect Metals in Kirksville a week earlier. Hamner had allegedly taken the tools to his residence in Keokuk, where his girlfriend, according to authorities in Keokuk, attempting to pawn the items.
Hamner is being held in the Adair County Jail under $25,000 cash only bond on the Adair County charges, with an additional $35,000 cash only bond on a Clark County warrant.
