KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- Many of the businesses in downtown Kirksville are hoping their sidewalks will be full of potential customers on Saturday, Nov 26 as they participate in a national effort called Small Business Saturday.  It's an initiative to get people to purchase gifts at locally owned businesses in their own communities.

"We're hopeful that people realize that downtown is here and has a lot to offer," said Keith Jackson, the owner of Blink of an Eye in Kirksville.   "We started our store with the idea that people would have an alternative to going to Columbia, St. Louis, etc."

Blink of an Eye sells women's accessories that might make a unique gift your mom, grandmother, sister, or that lucky lady in your life.

"We have a huge selection of rings that are very affordable..anything from $2.95 and up. Our necklace and earring sets are very popular. And of course, our purses are great and people are always pleasantly surprised at the prices of our purses and wallets."

If you're looking to really wow your sweetheart with some fine jewelry and are even thinking about asking for her hand in marriage, Gardner-Collier is having a big sale Saturday in all of their locations.

"Engagement rings are 20% off," said Bryan Collier, President and Store manager of Gardner-Collier in Kirksville.  "Diamond  stud earrings are 30% off. We have a $10 off special on our daring diamonds.   Birthstone rings are also included."

And guess what ladies- they also have great gifts for men as well.

"We have men's jewelry, men's watches, money clips.  We sell a lot of watches for men."

Many of the businesses in the downtown area have given away a sheet complete with coupons to use on Saturday.

"Our store, for that day, with the coupon, is 25% off your entire purchase,"  said Jackson.

"We have good deals throughout the year but this will be one of the best ones," said Bryan Collier.

Small Business Saturday is being organized locally by the Kirksville Downtown Improvement Committee.
