OTTUMWA, IOWA -- The miles of trails in Ottumwa's parks are maintained by the Wapello County Trails Council.

To fund the construction and improvement of trails, they hold several fundraisers thoughout the year, including the Eagle Walk in January and the annual Mediathon in May.

A new fundraiser, co-founded by Courtney Brown and Emily Anderson, is in the works for next October. Called Run to Fund, it will feature a 5K and 10K race.

"One hundred percent of the profits will go to the Wapello trails council and that would either help expand the current trails, it'll go to the construction of new trials, or it'll go to signs," Brown said. "We really just want to expand the trails, we really love them and we think they're a wonderful asset to the Ottumwa surrounding areas."

With the proceeds raised from the events, the council hopes to extend the trail on the south side of the river, and connect the trail by the skate park to Market Street.
