KIRKSVILLE,MO -- The Adair County SB40 Developmental Disability Board announced Tuesday a grant was awarded to Community Opportunities Sheltered Workshop in the amount of $40,250.
This funding will enable Community Opportunities to hire a new Business and Employment Services Manager to oversee a planned expansion of the types of employment services they will offer.
The State of Missouri has adopted an “Employment First” policy for persons with developmental disabilities, opening up a new range of services to support persons to find and keep employment at competitive rates. The Community Opportunities Board plans to become a provider of community based job crews and enclave services as well as individual employment supports to persons with disabilities who develop the skills to work in competitive employment. This expansion will bring additional opportunities to the persons employed through Community Opportunities as well as additional revenues to the organization. The Adair County SB40 is pleased to support Community Opportunities in this endeavor to meet a wider variety of employment needs of persons with developmental disabilities in Northeast Missouri.
Doug Nichting, President of the Community Opportunities Sheltered Workshop Board, accepted the grant from the Adair County SB40 Board at their November 8 meeting.
