OTTUMWA, IOWA -- For our Facebook story of the day, our fans wanted to know about stockpile levels at food banks this time of year, and how they can donate.
We spoke to Neal Abbott, executive director of the Food Bank of South Iowa in Ottumwa, who said that food supplies are low this time of year, due to such a high demand.

"There is definitely more going out than coming in," Abbott said. "We'll take donations of any kind, we take perishables, non-perishable items, we even take produce."
The most wanted items are meat and canned goods.
The Food Bank of South Iowa has already delivered a 1.5 million pounds of food this year, and expect to deliver at total of 2 million pounds by the end of the year.
Food banks will also accept toiletries and non-food donations. Items like toothpaste, toothbrushes and hygene items are very much in demand.
Especially around the holidays, Abbott encourages any one who is able to make a donation by bringing it by their nearest food bank.
"We'll take anything," Abbott said.
