KIRKSVILLE -- A Kirksville school is about to make reading a lot more fun thanks to the help of one beloved book character.
Clifford the Big Red Dog will be appearing at the Family Night Literacy PJ Party at Faith Lutheran School Thursday from 5-6 PM.
There will be interactive reading circles and a wide variety of seasonal literature choices, beloved children's classics, and celebrated contemporary book series.
The event is free for the whole community to enjoy.
“It's not just an event for Faith Lutheran School students.” Said Event Volunteer Loddie Krepps. “We want all kids reading. We are hosting the event as a service to the community. We want families with children to come out and celebrate reading with us on Thursday night.”
The event is being held during American Education Week to teach children the importance of reading books.
“It's a great way to send out a literacy message to promote that reading is important.” Krepps said. “We know reading is important. We know reading is one of the skills families can directly impact. The best way is to have your kids read with you, so that's why this is a family event, to come read with your children.”
Everyone is encouraged to wear PJs.
Refreshments such as hot cocoa and apple cider will be provided.
