OTTUMWA, IOWA -- The Ottumwa School Board voted unanimously Monday to approve the plans for a new elementary school.
The new school will replace the four smaller, older schools that the district currently has on its south side and consolidate its students in one facility. The building will be constructed in what is now a farm field off of West Mary Street.
"The plan is to put the project to bid in March, break ground in April and open the doors for students and community in August 2013," Superintendent Davis Eidahl said.
The project will be funded by the one-cent state sales tax add-on and will cost approximately $14.6 million.
