LAPLATA, MISSOURI -- A Northeast Missouri couple is facing felony charges, in connection with a theft of money from a LaPlata Missouri residence.

Michael McVay, 31, of Kirksville, is charged with Felony Burglary and Felony Stealing. Meanwhile, his accomplice, Jessica Brake, 26, also of Kirksville, is charged with a felony count of Tampering with Physical Evidence. Both have been released on bond.

According to information from the sheriff’s office, McVay had been working at the residence, and then while the victims were gone, the suspect stole a large amount of cash from the residence. Deputies say while in custody, McVay called Brake, his girlfriend, and told her to hide cash and items they had purchased with the stolen money.

The Macon County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Kirksville Police Department in the investigation.
