KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- A northeast Missouri man is facing two felony charges after police say he hit a man in the face with a hammer.

Sean Dale Pinkerton, 24, of Kirksville is charged with 2nd-degree assault and armed criminal action in connection with an altercation that happened around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Pinkerton's arrest came after police officers responded to a report of a fight in progress at 606 North Elson Street in Kirksville.

Officers said witnesses at the scene told them that Pinkerton drove to the scene and got out of his van with a hammer in his hand as he approached the front porch.

The two men fought, hitting each other multiple times, breaking the railing off of the front porch.

Police ended up taking Pinkerton into custody. He was later charged.
