KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- Construction begins Wednesday on a new building for the Northeast Missouri Health Council.

Andy Grimm, NMHC CEO, made the announcement Tuesday.

Grimm says the 25,000 square foot, two-story building will be located on the north side of Jefferson Street next to A.T. Still University's east parking lot.

The $3.8 million building will house the OB/GYN Specialty Group and Northeast Pediatrics on the first floor, and Northeast Dental on the second floor. Funding is provided by the Capital Development program grant administered through the U.S Department of Health and Human Services.

The facility is set to open in the fall of 2012.

Sparks Construction of Kirksville will be the contractor for the project.

The new building will sit next to ATSU’s new dental school, which is scheduled to start construction in the spring.

Dr. Jack Magruder, President of ATSU, said that "groundbreaking for the Health Council building marks another milestone on the road to the University's new dental school in Kirksville working closely with NMHC for the betterment of our community through service to the medically underserved."
