KIRKSVILLE, MISSOURI -- Get your fishing rods ready because the trout has arrived. On Tuesday afternoon, a truckload of trout was dumped into Kirksville's Spur Pond.

It's the beginning of Missouri's Winter Trout fishing season. From Nov. 1 until Feb.1, anglers must catch and release trout from local ponds. They are not permitted to take them home to eat.

Anglers must also use only artificial lures. Kirksville city leaders said more than 1,500 trout were put into Spur Pond Tuesday afternoon at a cost of about $3,000.

The pond is stocked once a year and has been stocked for the past four years.

For more information on Winter Trout fishing regulation, head to the state website.
